Learning for children is no longer being confined to the four walls of the classroom. An innovative initiative of Divisional Commissioner Devi Patan Division, Durga Shakti Nagpal, is creating a more engaging study environment for children at home by providing free study tables to students of government schools.
The initiative aims to encourage children to develop a habit of studying at home in a comfortable, organized and enjoyable environment. The impact was visible on Thursday at Primary School Mudiadeeh in Jarwal block, where Bahraich District Basic Education Officer (BSA) Aashish Kumar Singh distributed free study tables among the enrolled students.
The children were visibly excited as they received the colourful study tables, which are designed not merely as furniture but as an engaging learning resource.
Tables designed to make learning fun
Explaining the initiative, BSA Aashish Kumar Singh said special attention is being paid to making the study tables colourful, attractive and educational so that children develop an interest in using them regularly.
He said the tables feature cartoon characters, counting and multiplication tables, along with elements related to games such as Ludo and Snakes and Ladders. The idea is to encourage children to learn while playing and exploring.
“The objective is not simply to provide children with a table to sit and study. The study tables are being designed in a way that children find them attractive and engaging, helping them read, play and learn at the same time,” Singh said.
Community participation driving the initiative
BSA Singh said the successful implementation of the initiative has been made possible through the support of the District Magistrate, Chief Development Officer and people from different sections of society.
In some places, he said, Gram Panchayats are supporting the initiative, while in others funds available with School Management Committees (SMCs) are being utilised. Community members are also coming forward to contribute and associate themselves with the initiative.
He said the collective participation has helped take the initiative forward and encouraging results are already becoming visible, with children showing greater enthusiasm towards studying at home.
A small table, a bigger learning opportunity
Parents have also welcomed the initiative, saying that having a dedicated and attractive study space at home would make it easier for children to sit and study regularly.
The initiative of Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal seeks to strengthen the learning environment beyond the classroom by giving children not only educational resources but also a space that encourages curiosity, creativity and independent learning.
At Primary School Mudiadeeh, the excitement among the children while receiving the study tables offered a simple but powerful picture of the impact of the initiative—a colourful study table becoming a new gateway to learning at home.
The Divisional Commissioner formally launched the innovative initiative in Bahraich recently, giving a new push to efforts to improve the learning environment for children beyond the classroom. Since its launch, the initiative has steadily gathered momentum across the district, with different stakeholders coming forward to support its implementation.
Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal said that nearly one lakh study tables will be distributed to children with the objective of providing them with better facilities for studying at home. She said education is the foundation of a child’s bright future and ensuring that students have access to essential learning resources is among the administration’s top priorities.
