Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives are steadily changing the face of government schools in Bahraich, with classrooms being upgraded, basic amenities improved and students gaining access to facilities that were earlier difficult to provide through regular government resources.
A significant contribution in this transformation has come from IndiaMART InterMESH Ltd., whose CSR interventions in the district have focused on strengthening school infrastructure and creating a more conducive environment for students to learn.
Under its CSR initiatives, work has been undertaken for the renovation and construction of school infrastructure, including classrooms and basic amenities. The programme has also supported the construction and renovation of separate toilets for boys and girls, addressing an important requirement for hygiene, dignity and a child-friendly school environment.
Access to safe drinking water has also received considerable attention. Project executive Khusheed Alam said more than 10 government schools in Bahraich have been supported with clean drinking water facilities through the installation of water filter plants and RO units under IndiaMART’s CSR funding. The facilities are expected to benefit students and staff while promoting better hygiene and health practices within schools.
Another major intervention has been the improvement of classroom furniture. More than 15 government schools have been provided with desks and benches through IndiaMART’s CSR funds, with over 1,000 desks provided so far. The initiative has helped replace inadequate or insufficient classroom furniture and is contributing to a more comfortable and organised learning environment for children.
The CSR interventions go beyond construction and infrastructure. By improving classrooms, sanitation, drinking water and furniture simultaneously, the initiatives are helping create schools where children can study in a cleaner, safer and more dignified environment.
The impact of these initiatives has also received recognition at the national level. IndiaMART InterMESH Ltd. was recently honoured with the Mahatma Award 2026 for its work in the area of education. The award recognizes organizations that embody the principles associated with Mahatma Gandhi, including trusteeship, equality, truth and social justice.
The award ceremony was held on October 1, 2026, at the India International Centre (IIC), New Delhi. IndiaMART, described as India’s leading online B2B marketplace, received the recognition for its contribution to education and social development.
The company has also received two CSR recognitions, including the Mahatma Award for CSR and ESG Excellence 2026 and SICA’26 in Education by CSR Universe, for its CSR initiatives.
In Bahraich, the initiatives offer an example of how government institutions and corporate CSR programmes can complement each other to address infrastructure gaps in schools. While government schemes remain central to strengthening public education, CSR support can provide additional resources for facilities such as drinking-water systems, furniture, sanitation and school infrastructure.
