Tragic Saturday: 4 Dead, 3 Injured, Woman Missing in Ghaghra in Bahraich

Bahraich: The festive mood of Rakshabandhan was overshadowed by grief in Bahraich on Saturday as four people, including a child, died in separate incidents across the district, while three others sustained serious injuries. In another case, a woman was swept away in the strong current of the Ghaghra River, prompting an intensive search by the NDRF team.
Child Drowns in Village Pond
In Gram Panchayat Bhauri, nine-year-old Divyansh, son of Rajkumar Sharma, went missing after heading to the fields in the morning. Hours later, his body was found floating in a pond. The incident sparked deep mourning in the family.
Tehsildar Mahsi, the regional lekhpal, and local police arrived at the scene to investigate.
Young Woman Swept Away in Ghaghra
In Tikuri village panchayat, Shahjahan (23), daughter of Yar Mohammad, slipped into the deep waters of the Ghaghra River while defecating near the bank. She was swept away by the strong current and has not been located.
Police, assisted by local divers, began a search, but without success until late evening. The NDRF team continues to scan different parts of the river.
Home Guard Found Dead – Murder Suspected
In Motipur police station limits, Sunil Kumar (46), posted as a home guard at a bank in Sujauli, was found dead in a eucalyptus garden just 200 meters from his residence in Nimbia Raibojha.
Sunil had left for duty on Friday morning but never returned. Despite repeated calls, his mobile phone went unanswered. On Saturday morning, family members found his body.
While relatives suspect foul play, police have said the cause of death will be determined after post-mortem examination.
Two More Dead in Road Accidents
In Pairwa Kanchanpur, Pankaj (18) was returning from Shravasti late Friday night to celebrate Rakshabandhan. While crossing the road at Jhinga Ghat, a speeding truck struck him, killing him on the spot.
In Payagpur, Siddhnath (45) died from injuries sustained last week when a speeding motorcycle hit him at Khuthana intersection. He was discharged from the hospital but succumbed at home on Friday night.
Three Others Injured
Three other individuals were injured in separate mishaps across the district, with two reported in critical condition.
