Bahraich, August 19: The monthly Kisan Diwas was organised at the Vikas Bhawan auditorium here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of Chief Development Officer (CDO) Sunil Kumar Dhanvanta, who directed officials to ensure the quality and timely resolution of farmers’ complaints.
Addressing the farmers, the CDO urged them to submit their grievances and suggestions in writing during Kisan Diwas so that the issues could be taken up on a priority basis. He also said farmers could meet him personally to raise their concerns. Dhanvanta encouraged farmers to adopt natural and organic farming practices to reduce input costs and increase their income.
During the meeting, progressive farmer Harisharan Singh sought early operation of the Rajapur and Belthara minors, while Bharatiya Kisan Union district president Ramkumar Verma demanded immediate activation of Jarwal Canal Section 5.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Vinay Kumar Verma informed farmers that paddy, maize and arhar crops have been covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for the Kharif 2026 season. He urged farmers to insure their crops by paying a two per cent premium through Common Service Centres (CSCs). He also appealed to farmers who have not yet registered their farms to complete the process through the nearest CSC or Agriculture Department field staff.
District Agriculture Officer Subedar Yadav said adequate stocks of fertilisers were available in the district and assured farmers that complaints regarding their availability would be addressed promptly.
District Cane Officer Anand Shukla informed the meeting that a court verdict on the outstanding dues of Chilwaria Sugar Mill had been delivered, directing 100 per cent payment of the farmers’ dues. He said the way had now been cleared for constitution of the Cane Operations Committee, raising hopes that farmers could receive their pending cane payments after October 2026.
Officials also briefed farmers on the use of Nano DAP and Nano Urea in paddy cultivation, the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana, and techniques to increase the shelf life of bananas and vegetables. Farmers were also advised to reduce the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides and adopt natural farming methods.
Senior officials from the Agriculture, Irrigation, Electricity, Horticulture, Cooperative, Cane, Food and Marketing and other departments attended the meeting. Progressive farmers, representatives of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and other farmers from across the district also participated.
