
Tragic Accident in Shravasti: Five Dead, One Critically Injured as Tractor-Mixer Collides with Overloaded Bike

Shravasti, August 11, 2025 – A devastating accident occurred on Monday morning near Harbanspur in the Hardatt Nagar Girant police station area of Shravasti, Uttar Pradesh, claiming the lives of five people, including a couple and two children. The collision, which took place around 8:30 AM near Rahmatu village, 500 meters from the Harbanspur police post, involved a tractor-mixer hitting a motorcycle carrying six passengers. One woman remains critically injured and is undergoing treatment at the district hospital.
The victims, residents of Mangal Purwa village in Bahraich district, were returning home after celebrating Rakshabandhan. The motorcycle, ridden by Vijay Verma (30), carried his wife Sunita (28), their one-year-old son, his sister Mangalavati (40), niece Neetu (19), and Gyanvati (30). The bike collided head-on with a tractor-mixer on the Shankarpur road from Badla Chauraha, leading to catastrophic consequences.
Victims and Injuries
- Deceased: Vijay Verma, his one-year-old son, Mangalavati, Neetu, and Gyanvati died in the accident. Four of them were pronounced dead at the scene, while a one-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries at the district hospital.
- Injured: Sunita, Vijay’s wife, sustained critical injuries and is receiving treatment at the district hospital.
Police and Administrative Response
Upon receiving information about the accident, local police, led by ASP Mukesh Chandra Uttam and CO Satish Sharma, arrived at the scene, took the bodies into custody, and sent them for postmortem. The tractor-mixer involved in the collision has been seized, though the driver fled the scene and remains at large. The police are actively searching for the driver and investigating the ownership of the vehicle.
SP Ghanshyam Chaurasia stated, “The motorcycle was carrying six people, which likely contributed to the severity of the accident. The bike collided with a tractor-mixer while the rider was en route to drop his sister. Legal action is underway, and the investigation is ongoing.”
District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi and SP Ghanshyam Chaurasia visited the district hospital’s emergency ward to assess the condition of the injured woman and ensure she receives the best possible treatment. The DM instructed doctors to provide advanced medical care and, if necessary, refer Sunita to a higher-level medical facility. He also met with the victims’ family members, assuring them of all possible assistance.
Investigation and Aftermath
The accident has sparked outrage among locals, who gathered at the scene and informed the police. The overloading of the motorcycle with six passengers is believed to have been a significant factor in the tragedy. Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the collision, including the tractor-mixer’s origin and the driver’s identity.
The damaged motorcycle has been taken into police custody, and further legal proceedings are in progress. The District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police also visited the accident site near Begumpur on the Tehsil Jamunha Bahraich road to take stock of the situation.

ASP Mukesh Chandra Uttam said, “Five people lost their lives in this tragic road accident. The police have seized the tractor-mixer, and efforts are underway to apprehend the driver. We are investigating the cause of the accident and the ownership of the vehicle.”
The Chief Medical Superintendent, along with other hospital staff, was present during the DM and SP’s visit to the hospital. The administration has pledged full support to the victims’ families and is ensuring comprehensive medical care for the injured.
